Jesus' life, death and resurrection!
Jesus’ Life and Ministry
Christians believe Jesus is more than a teacher. He is God’s Son who entered human life—fully human, yet without sin—to reveal what God is like and to bring people back to God.
In the accounts of Jesus’ life (the Gospels in the New Testament), we see Him:
- Announcing God’s kingdom: He spoke of God’s reign as present and near—calling people to turn toward God in trust.
- Showing compassion: He welcomed the overlooked, healed the sick, and treated people with dignity and mercy.
- Teaching with clarity: He used stories and everyday images to explain truth about God, love, forgiveness, and prayer.
- Calling disciples: He invited ordinary people to follow Him and learn a life shaped by love for God and neighbor.
- Confronting hypocrisy: He challenged empty religion and pointed to a sincere faith that bears fruit in humility and justice.
Key theme: Jesus’ ministry shows that God’s holiness is not cold distance—God’s holiness comes with mercy, truth, and a desire to restore what is broken.
The Crucifixion and Resurrection
The heart of the gospel is what happened at the end of Jesus’ earthly life: His crucifixion and His resurrection.
- The crucifixion: Jesus was arrested, condemned, and crucified. Christians believe His death was not an accident or a defeat, but a willing act of love—Jesus giving Himself to deal with sin and to bring forgiveness.
- The resurrection: Christians believe Jesus rose from the dead on the third day. This is the turning point of the Christian story: death does not have the last word, and Jesus is truly Lord.
- What it means: Through the cross and resurrection, the power of sin is broken, guilt can be forgiven, and a new life with God is opened to all who come to Him.
Why it matters
Jesus’ death - Shows God’s love and makes a way for forgiveness and reconciliation with God.
Jesus’ resurrection - Confirms His victory over death and gives a living hope for new life now and forever.
The Invitation to Faith
The gospel is not only information—it is an invitation! Christians believe God calls people to respond to Jesus with faith, turning toward Him and receiving what He offers.
Faith, in plain terms, means trusting Jesus: trusting who He is, trusting what He has done, and trusting Him with your life.
How people respond
- Listen: Consider the story of Jesus and what it reveals about God.
- Turn: Be honest about sin and the need for forgiveness—choosing to turn away from what leads you from God.
- Trust: Place your confidence in Jesus, not in your own ability to earn God’s acceptance.
- Follow: Begin learning His way—love, truth, prayer, and a life shaped by grace.
A simple prayer (if you want one):
“God, I want to know You. Thank You for Jesus. Please forgive me, make me new, and teach me to follow Him. Amen.”
